The MOC building block model recreates a famous American supersonic passenger aircraft. Inspired by the real aircraft, this model features detailed construction, accurate proportions, and an engaging building experience, making it an appealing collectible for aviation enthusiasts and model builders.
.Parts Description: Includes 4022 pieces. All pieces are accurate in color and have a smooth feel. Each piece fits well, ensuring a tight, stable build. The parts are made to a quality standard comparable to mainstream building-block brands. Each bag of parts is sorted by type, making it easier to check and organize the pieces during assembly. The set saves building enthusiasts the time and expense of sourcing individual parts, while providing a convenient and cost-effective building experience. The parts are also compatible with building sets from a well-known Danish building-block brand.
.Clear Instruction: Scan the QR code for easy step-by-step assembly. Enhances hands-on skills and creativity.
.Value and Significance: After being assembled, the building blocks can serve as display models and background decorations.
.Notes: Contains small parts. Use and store with caution. Suitable for people over 16 years old, please be careful to prevent accidental swallowing.
Background Story
B2707 was the representative work of the United States in the supersonic transport (SST) competition in the 1960s. On June 5, 1963, President Kennedy officially launched the ""National Supersonic Transport Program"" with this aircraft, aiming to respond to the challenges from the British Concorde and the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144. The design was larger, faster, and more ambitious than both. On January 1, 1967, B Company won the bid of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with a design capable of accommodating 300 passengers and with a speed of 2.7 Mach. It defeated the simpler L-2000 model of the Lockheed Company. Subsequently, three improved models were launched: the 2707-100 model with a movable wing; the 2707-200 model with two pairs of small leading-edge wings placed at the rear to enhance stability and control; and the 2707-300 model with a fixed wing and tail configuration, which eventually replaced the first two. Among them, the -200 model reflected the technical difficulties of the project: the fuselage was 306 feet long, with a maximum takeoff weight of 675,000 pounds. It was supposed to be one of the largest passenger aircraft in history, but the titanium alloy movable wing shaft itself weighed 4,600 pounds, and any technological improvements could not meet the airlines' requirements for transatlantic flights. Therefore, B Company completely abandoned the variable geometry wing design in October 1968. When Congress stopped funding, two prototype aircraft and a full-scale -300 model were under construction. In March 1971, the Senate, on May 20, passed a resolution in the House of Representatives by a vote of 215 to 204, terminating the funding support for the project. Although B Company still held 115 unfinished orders from 25 airlines at that time - even more than the orders for the Concorde during the same period - no prototype aircraft successfully completed its test flight. As a result, B Company lost over 60,000 jobs, and the SST supersonic passenger aircraft was thus called ""the plane that almost ate Seattle.""
This MOC is a 1:80 scale model of the B2707-200 aircraft, with a classic paint job and combined with classic bricks, panels, and tiles, while using a large amount of technological parts and gears. The model faithfully reproduces the design of the B2707-200, and in fact, I obtained a copy of the original drawing and scanned it for use as a reference throughout the design process. In addition to the precise appearance, the model also fully recreates all the movable parts of the real aircraft: retractable landing gear, drooping nose, and movable wings.
These functions are driven by hand-cranked handles connected to the internal gear mechanism. Turning the crank triggers the ""magic"": the nose droops, the wings extend outward, the landing gear extends, and the aircraft transforms into a landing position. Conversely, turning will retract the wings, raise the nose, and retract the landing gear, restoring the aircraft to supersonic cruise mode.
The model also comes with multiple manually adjustable moving parts, including leading-edge flaps, wing flaps, tail elevator, and rudder.
The MOC kit includes a display stand, and the aircraft must always be placed on the stand to ensure the normal operation of all moving parts. Additionally, it comes with sticker pages and installation instructions.
